🕌 Dükkanlar Önü Mosque: A Hidden Ottoman Gem in North Nicosia 

Nestled in the heart of North Nicosia, the Dükkanlar Önü Mosque (Dükkanlar Önü Camii) stands as a testament to the island's rich Ottoman heritage. Originally constructed in the early 18th century, this mosque has undergone significant transformations, reflecting the dynamic history of Cyprus. Ottoman Origins:

The mosque was built during the early 18th century, a period marked by Ottoman expansion and architectural development in Cyprus. 

Architectural Transformation

Originally a Venetian building, most likely constructed as an inn due to its resemblance to 16th-century Italian inns, the structure was converted into a mosque following the Ottoman conquest of Cyprus. The building featured Gothic arches and 14th-century engravings, which were later described as "ornate" by Muzaffer Haşmet Gürkan.

Structural Challenges

In 1952, the mosque's minaret was demolished as it was considered dangerous. On 6 September 1962, a large part of the mosque collapsed, resulting in the tragic death of a Greek Cypriot woman passing by. The incident highlighted the need for restoration and preservation of historical structures in the region.

Recognizing the cultural and historical value of the Dükkanlar Önü Mosque, the Turkish Evkaf Department, in collaboration with the local Evkaf Administration, initiated restoration projects to revive the mosque.
