Do I Need a Visa to Visit Northern Cyprus?
Do I Need a Visa to Visit Northern Cyprus?

🛂 If you're planning a trip to Northern Cyprus, you're probably wondering:"Do I need a visa?"

Let’s clear it up in under five minutes.

🌍 Who Can Visit Without a Visa?

Most travellers do not need a visa to enter Northern Cyprus for short stays.

Visa-free for up to 90 days for citizens of:

  • United Kingdom

  • European Union (all member states)

  • United States

  • Canada

  • Australia & New Zealand

  • Turkey

  • Many Middle Eastern and Asian countries

🧳 Just show your passport at the airport or land border. You’ll receive an entry slip — not a stamp.

💡Pro Tip: Check with the officer at passport control how long a stay they are granting you. Many officers will give you 30 days as a standard, unless you ask for longer.

📄 What Is the Entry Slip?

When you enter Northern Cyprus, border officials issue a white paper slip with your entry date — instead of stamping your passport. This avoids problems when entering South Cyprus later.

💡 Don’t lose it — you may be asked to show it on departure!

🕒 How Long Can I Stay?

  • Most nationalities get up to 90 days

  • You must leave and re-enter if you want to reset your stay

  • Overstaying may result in fines at the border

Planning to stay longer? You can apply for a temporary residency permit from the Immigration Office in Lefkoşa (Nicosia).

✈️ Arriving Through South Cyprus?

If you fly into Larnaca or Paphos Airports (Republic of Cyprus) and travel north:

  • You’ll enter South Cyprus legally under EU rules

  • No border checks when crossing into the North

  • But you are not officially stamped into Northern Cyprus

This route is totally fine for tourists and used daily by thousands.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • North Cyprus is not recognized by most countries, so you can’t get official consular help there

  • Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months

  • Always check with your airline about visa/transit requirements if you're connecting through Turkey

🛃 Can I Work on a Tourist Entry?

No. If you plan to work, volunteer, or stay long-term, you’ll need to apply for the appropriate work or residency permit.
