Expedited driving test Northern Cyprus
A new regulation has come into force in Northern Cyprus allowing learner drivers to pay for an expedited practical driving test, significantly reducing waiting times for test appointments. The decision has been formally published in the Official Gazette and is already in effect.
The measure is designed to ease long queues while offering applicants greater flexibility — at an additional cost.

How the Expedited Driving Test Works
Under the new regulation, candidates may now request a fast-track practical driving test:
The test can be taken within 5 working days of application
An additional fee equal to 20% of the minimum wage applies
This fee is paid on top of the standard driving test fee
The option is entirely voluntary and applies only to candidates who wish to secure an earlier test date.

Legal Approval and Duration of the Measure
The regulation was approved by the Council of Ministers and submitted to the Republican Assembly for consideration.
Key points:
The regulation is already in force
It will remain valid until 31 July 2026
This makes the fast-track option a temporary measure, introduced to address current demand pressures in the driving test system.

Why the Change Was Introduced
Authorities have stated that the primary objectives of the regulation are to:
Reduce waiting lists for practical driving tests
Improve system efficiency during periods of high demand
Give applicants the choice to pay for faster access rather than wait
For many learner drivers — particularly those needing a licence for work — the ability to secure a test date quickly could prove highly valuable.

What Learner Drivers Should Consider
Before opting for the expedited test, candidates should keep in mind:
The extra cost may be significant
Availability is still subject to testing capacity
Preparation time remains crucial — a faster test date does not mean an easier test
Applicants are advised to ensure they are fully ready before requesting an expedited slot.

Summary
The introduction of a paid fast-track option marks a notable shift in how driving tests are scheduled in Northern Cyprus. While it offers greater flexibility and shorter waiting times, it also raises broader questions about access and affordability within the licensing system.
For now, the option provides an alternative route for those willing to pay a premium to get on the road sooner.
