🌴 Glapsides Beach: An Overview
Glapsides Beach is a sandy, public beach located just north of Famagusta in Northern Cyprus. It’s loved by both locals and tourists for its relaxed vibe, natural beauty, and fairly good amenities.
🏖️ What it's like
The sand is soft and golden, and the waters are crystal clear.
The sea is shallow for a good distance from the shore, which makes it very family-friendly. Young children can safely wade far in.
The beach stretches out gently; it is not super narrow, and there’s plenty of space to spread out.
🛠️ Facilities & Amenities
Glapsides isn’t totally wild — there are a number of useful amenities:
Sunbeds, umbrellas for rent.
Cafés / restaurants along the beach, including the Glapsides Beach Bar & Restaurant right on the shore.
Toilets, showers, changing rooms available via the establishments.
Some water sports are possible, such as paddleboarding or diving.
👍 Pros & Things to Keep in Mind
What’s good:
Very good beach for families — shallow water, easy entry, safe conditions.
Nice natural setting, clean water, relaxing atmosphere.
Convenient access from Famagusta. If you’re based there, it’s fairly close.
Caveats:
While infrastructure is decent, it's not super luxury — some visitors mention that parts of the area surrounding the beach could use maintenance.
The beach can get busy during peak season or at weekends.
If you want a totally quiet/wilder beach, you may need to go a little north of the developed stretch.
🚗 Getting There
By car: From Famagusta, the route is fairly straightforward. If coming from Iskele or from Famagusta, follow the signs toward Iskele / the main coastal road, take the exit at the Burhan Nalbantoğlu roundabout, and follow to the end for the parking area.
By bus / minibus: There are buses/minibuses between Famagusta and Iskele that will drop you off near that roundabout. From there, some walking (≈1 km) is required to reach the beach.
🌞 Best Time to Visit
Summer (June–September) is prime time: warm weather, warm sea, lively atmosphere.
Early morning or late afternoon are good for avoiding crowds and catching softer light.
Off-season (spring & autumn) can be more peaceful, though some services may be reduced.
📝 Quick Practical Tips
Bring sun protection (hat, sunscreen, etc.), especially midday.
Cash local currency will be useful for sunbeds / cafés.
If you’re after a quieter spot, arrive earlier or explore the less developed northern stretch of the beach.
Don’t forget towel/shoe/wet-feet gear — while the sea starts shallow, the seabed further in might be uneven.
